What is the Brisbane Writers Festival?
The Brisbane Writers Festival attracts some of the finest names in writing to Brisbane. Each Festival is an exciting mix of traditional fiction and non-fiction; including biography, history, politics and current affairs. The Festival also embraces new forms and cross-genre offerings, featuring a variety of talent from much-loved local favourites to some of the most exciting and distinctive new voices from within Australia and overseas.

The Festival is held annually in early spring at the State Library of Queensland and selected venues throughout Brisbane in the evenings. The majority of the main Festival events are FREE and all are welcome. 2009 Brisbane Writers Festival takes place from Wednesday 9 to Sunday 13 September.

Books are unlimited in their scope, and The Brisbane Writers Festival has events to suit book lovers of all ages with a variety of interests. Join us to experience a wide range of literary events; reading with your favourite author, participating in intense debates and discussions on the issues of the day, experiencing celebratory book launches and fine examples of new work, participating in workshops and advice sessions  for aspiring writers.
